With a VR headset, you can become fully immersed in the thrilling horror of Doom, the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Fallout, or Skyrim’s picturesque fantasy realm. Whereas many developers and publishers have toyed with the medium, releasing smaller experiments to test the waters, over the last few weeks Bethesda has released three of its biggest games in VR. For £20 it's okay, fair price for the experience you get imo.Bethesda has really gone all-in with virtual reality.
I've only played for about 45 mins though, I'll see how I feel when I've spent more time on the game. For £20 it's okay, fair price for the experience you get imo. 'oh sh**, run around in a mad panic' now lol I really like how intimidating some of the demons look, it's a lot more. I really miss the glory kills, teleporting into a demon isn't as fun. I still wish there was the option to just run around normally using the pad on the controller. The teleporting thing works okay, and having the ability to dash is a good middleground.
So in my case I'm constantly getting tangled up in the cables. Game play is okay, my main gripe is there's no way to rotate with the controllers, you have to do it in reality.
To be fair it looks okay, limiting factor is the resolution of the Vive imo. I guess that's fantastic news for anyone wanting to play on lower end hardware, but I want to turn eye candy up a bit lol. I wish there were more graphics options, it's only using 40% of my 1080Ti to hold 90fps. Valve has patched the bug and it's playable now for Oculus owners! So, it looks like Doom had a bug that stopped Oculus Rift users from playing. It's pretty crazy they have locked out Doom from Carmack. If you are on the fence about getting it then don't be, because it's well worth the $29.99. Dashing is simple, but teleporting is simple to once I figured out I could just click the center of the pad. To dash you just click the edge of the pad in the direction you want to dash. lol Finally I figured out to just click the center of the pad. So, I was dashing trying to get the portal to work. I was clicking backward down like on a d pad to get the teleport working at first, during the tutorial, because they don't show you the dash until the next tutorial. Also, the controls took a bit of getting use too. Rather than the Vive wand being straight up like holding a pistol you have to pretty much hold it like a magic wand where you are pointing the halo of the controller straight forward. The gun angle needs to be adjusted or let the user pick the angle. It has the original doom music in the game which is cool. The sound effects are great and on point with being a Doom game. I've played a lot of games that have horrible menus. I'm really impressed with how the menus look and work. I'm really impressed, because I didn't think I would be able to handle the fast past game play. I'm sure it's dropping some, but not enough for me to notice. at least around an 1 hour and 30 minutes, and I felt no nausea at all and I've felt nausea on games that can't keep up with a 90 frame rate, like Robinson. I was afraid I wasn't going to play at all due to frame drops, but I played a straight. I assume it's only doing this for me with my GTX 970 which is under minimum requirements. It's kind of like how Netflix quality drops when your connection slows rather than stopping and buffering. It seems they are dropping the graphics quality during game play to keep your frame rate high. Now, graphic wise when it's clear it's amazing. I even enjoyed the teleporting and it makes the fast action even better. WOW! This is amazing! I mean it's not perfect by no means, but it's a whole lot better than I thought it was going to be. So, I just finished playing for about an hour maybe two.
